3/13/2013 - Jeremy Martin Earns a Podium Finish in his Fourth Career SX race at Daytona!

In only his fourth career Supercross event, Star Racing Yamaha rookie Jeremy Martin scored a huge podium finish in the 250 class in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Saturday night, March 9. Even more impressively, the 19-year-old YZ250F rider did it the hard way – after starting inside the top 10, he methodically worked his way up-field and ultimately into podium position during what is unquestionably the longest and toughest race on the schedule.

Coming from a racing family with years of amateur competition under his belt – including multiple amateur titles – Martin was well prepared to tackle the toughest Supercross race. He was fourth in 250-class qualifying practice, then finished fifth in his heat to gain a solid gate pick for the main event. When the gate finally dropped on Saturday night, Martin made it through the first turn in mid-pack – clearly in the hunt but with a lot of work to do to find his way up front. He got down to business immediately, climbing into fourth by lap three and remaining there all the way until lap 12, when he made a block pass on Dean Wilson for third. But instead of just hanging on, the YZ rider kept charging right to the end, ultimately finishing just 2.1 sec. behind Wil Hahn in second.

“I made a few mistakes tonight but I just kept going forward,” Martin said after receiving his third-place trophy. “I am motivated because I know this is my time – it's time to make it happen.” Yamaha Supercross/Motocross team manager Jim Perry added, “I was glad to see the awesome work of Jeremy and the entire Star Racing team pay off tonight, on what was definitely the roughest Supercross track of the year.” Now with two top-fives and a podium in the nine-round 250 Supercross East series, Martin climbs to an impressive fifth place in points with five rounds remaining. The series now heads to Indianapolis, Ind. on March 16.
